More about De Wallen:
De Wallen is a five-piece riff-rock band. Born in Northern-Suburbs of Cape Town and bred in Stellenbosch. Rock was meant to be played hard and loud. They intend to keep it that way…
Ruckus. Reckless. Rampant.
A solid rock-mantra and represents the characteristics Jeandré Swanepoel looked to base a rock band on in late 2011. A chance encounter and a bottle of whiskey ensured the service of drummer Dawid Bosman. Pieter Bekker was recruited to play guitar a day later.
De Wallen takes their name from the infamous road that runs through the Red-Light district in Amsterdam. Like its namesake, the band thrives on debauchery and excess.
Five days after the band was formed, a first show was lined-up. Rough and untamed. The way it’s meant to be. They took most of 2012 and 2013 to play shows, gain experience and write. Brandon Bell (Bass) and Thomas Knoesen (Lead Guitar) completes the band’s current line-up.
The first content was launched in August 2013 in the shape of the ‘Dirty Deals' album. De Wallen has seen success in the local rock scene by winning various battle-of-the-bands, playing with South Africa's top acts and embarking on their first tour up north.
2014 saw the band enter a new stage and brought a spankin' new sound. Drummer Dawid was replaced with André Wentzel. André performed with the band until Victor Green took over as solid, full-time member. With shows all over the greater Cape Town area the band looked and sounded great.
This year has had its ups and downs but with the release of their new EP, ‘2.0’ the band looks to break new frontiers.
"Till the end of the line we're gonna have one hell of a time."
