This September, Benoni will host their version of one of the world’s most favourite cultural folk festivals – OKTOBERFEST. Along with their partners Rockford Media, the festival have put together a line-up of top-notch German Beer, Food & Music as well as some of SA’s most favourite local bands.
Oktoberfest SA is owned and managed by a real German couple, living in Benoni, who want to bring a taste of Germany back to their new home, South Africa. By combining authentic German Food, Music and Beer with their South African counterparts, we want to create a top-notch Festival in the East Rand for people of all ages.
GERMAN BEER & FOOD
Top quality imported German Beers will be sold on the day, as well as the favourite German Shooters Schnapps, Jagermeister and more. Of course, the usual SAB & Craft Beers will be on sale on the day as well as spirits & shooters. From a food point of view, many German favourites will be available from Bratwurst to Weisswurst – and don’t forget the Sauerkraut!
The Eisbeins will be the official German Oompah Band for the day, playing 2 sets – 2 in the afternoon for lunch and 1 early evening for dinner. The rest of the day’s line-up will be made up of Top SA Bands – The Black Cat Bones, Georgetown, Gangsterdam, The Sextons, Strait-Jackal, Flipside Rock Band and The Mitten Fits. There will also be a designated Kiddies Play Area with lots to keep the young ones entertained.
The first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honour of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810, and ended on October 17th with a horse race. In the following years, the celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September.
This year, Oktoberfest in Germany kicks off on 17th September - so we thought we would host ours at the same time!
