We are Lu Flur - an Alternative, Electro-Acoustic Harp & Vocal duo from Johannesburg.
“Flowers more fleeting, more ethereal, would become like messengers from another realm like a bridge between the world of physical forms and the formless. They not only had a scent that was delicate and pleasing to human beings, but also brought a fragrance to the realm of spirit.” Eckhart Tolle, captures Lu Flur’s music and philosophy in this excerpt from his book, A New Earth.
Lu Flur was established on the 11th of March 2012, by the coming together of two diverse artists on a rooftop in Melville, Johannesburg. The duo consists out of Jude HarpStar, an international classically trained harpist, pianist & composer and Zahné, a mostly self taught female vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and educated information designer. During their first practice session Jude & Zahné discovered something truly special about their combination as musicians, creatives and human beings. They both share a passion and dream to create music that is beautiful, unique and that moves the soul. Jude & Zahné have also recently discovered that their grandparents were family friends back when they were young. They somehow lost contact and a generation was skipped. As time would tell, they managed to find one another again through music.
Lu Flur believes that their music is a constant evolving creative process with endless possibilities. Therese Owen describes their music as the “Cocteau Twins meets Siouxsie and the Banshees meets 21st century ethereal ballads.” (1) Performing mostly original songs and one or 2 covers, Lu Flur has performed at various private functions and live music venues such as Tokyo Star in Greenside and became a regular attraction at The Loft in Melville during 2012. Lu Flur was the opening act for the Afro-Soul superstar Nomfusi at Bassline, Newtown in February 2013 and made their festival debut at Splashy Fen Music Festival in March of this year. The duo made it to the Top 10 of Marshall Music Acoustic Competition in correlation with Rumours Lounge during June 2013 and will also be taking part in the EWH Rock vs Pop Competition finals later on this year. Lu Flur also had the pleasure of performing at Fete de la Musique in Melville, which took place in July: taking them back to where it all started.
Lu Flur has recently recorded an EP at Anti-Motion Studios with David Grevler, which is still in post-production stages, so keep your eyes and ears open for the release date. We cannot wait to send it out into the world! In the mean time Lu Flur’s debut single, Future Tides, has been released to give everyone a taste of what’s to come. Lu Flur is currently performing live, writing new music and enjoying the journey.
We are SOUL. We are FLESH. We are DUST. We are HEART. We are MIND. We are LU FLUR.
