Local Band "Half Price" Speaks out about Current South African Tensions

By now you will probably know when something needs to be said and no one is prepared to do it Half Price will not disappoint. We try to stay out of politics for as we definitely are about 90% politically incompetent and about 10% politically incorrect. But these are desperate times and something needs to be said.

I’ve... been growing more and more concerned every day with the racism and hate speech that is openly being preached in the media and the internet. I believe Eugene Terre Blanche and Julius Malema are one of a kind, they are both stupid, fascist, racist assholes. They are certainly not leaders in the true sense of the word; a true leader thinks about the people and not about his own interest, a true leader unites his people and doesn’t divide them, a true leader should also rise above hatred and forgive rather than cause hatred. For example I do agree the song “Ayasab’ amagwala” with the famous line “shoot the Boer” is definitely a heritage of the struggle, and was very necessary during the fight against apartheid. For that reason I don’t think the song should be banned. Nevertheless, is it appropriate to sing it now?

It is causing tension and dividing us rather than uniting us, causing hatred, and therefore I don’t think it is appropriate. A true leader would choose not to sing it, even if he does not agree.

Further the murder of Terre Blanche is assisting the plans of extremists on both sides. The AWB has managed to portray this crime as being politically motivated and through this propaganda I see that already more and more people are joining the AWB. This plays right into the hands of Malema and his supporters, proving their point that all whites are racist. Which in return justifies the right-wingers again, etc, etc.

Perhaps we, the majority of South Africans who believe in the new South Africa, are partly to blame for this. For too long we have kept silent and have allowed these extremist bigots to dominate the media with their hate speech. Any outsider reading our news must think that all South Africans are racist, while in reality it is just a few extremists. Fair enough, I think these extremists are increasing in number every day, and that is why this perpetual cycle of hatred has to be stopped! Each one of us has to speak out so that we can rise above this hatred. We need to stand together and not allow this country to ever be divided and ruled along racial lines again. I for
sure am willing to play my part…
