Frozen fingers and Zamalek draughts!

So it was youth day the other day, which meant another public holiday providing us with a nice mid-week break from this already-too-long year filled with work, stress and soccer mayhem. Unfortunately though the break was nowhere near relaxing for most of us who decided to trade in a day of chilling under a mountain of blankets watching DVDs for a day of debauchery and metal at Cool Runnings Fourways, a spot that is quickly rising to the top of my favourite venues list.

The weather not being forgiving what-so-ever we opted to cruise through early enough to catch some rays and warm up before the alcohol did it's job of numbing our cold receptors, as it does, and in turn managed to catch most the bands of the day. The line-up consisted of the usual suspects, All Forlorn, Mesadoth, Fragmented Children, Rhutz, AOA, Sathern, Erebus, Warthane, Agro, etc... All bands that you've all heard of, know what they sound like, and I've written about numerous amount of times, so instead I'll opt for telling you about the party and vibe instead.

The venue was pretty awesome, with a decent inside area with plenty space for a mosh, and a huge outside area donning a sizey fire-pit, which is very popular in this frost-bitten winter. A pleasant surprise was the fact that they stock Black Label draught, funnily enough one of the few venues, that I frequent at least, that does. Thinking back, that was probably a very large contributing factor to the drunken state we all managed to land ourselves in by the end of the night, that and the multitude of shooters I can imagine.

The vibe was cool with just the right amount of metalheads for it not be too crowded and having to spend hours waiting at the bar, but enough to stir up a party. We spent the day on a merry-go-round mission between the stage, the bar and the outside area, catching a few songs of each band as we cruised, and bumping into some familiar faces and meeting a few new ones, making a celebration of every encounter with a shot or two of tequila.

The atmosphere was friendly, and the big fire outside towards the end of the evening made for an awesome gathering of slurred conversations while defrosting ones fingers. The sound was decent, the stage could do with a bit more space though, according to a few comments from bands I've heard since, but non-the-less it was a good party. I'd definitely recommend the next installment to all. Hopefully you'll be left with a few more memories and less scars. Thanks to Untamed Entertainment for the insane party and looking forward to a lot more from the boys.
