THE SIGNAL ROSE are an alternative rock band from Cape Town, whose music I have followed with growing interest in this last year. I welcomed the opportunity to meet the super-chilled members of the band on Friday night at Gandalf’s in Observatory. They are headed up by seasoned musicians, Shaun Orlando Berry on lead guitar and vocals, JP Greeff on bass, and Niel Walters on drums, with Shaun writing all the songs, with JP and Neil bringing their own angle and arangements to the music
Even the consistently good music produced by this band did not prepare me for the electrifying stage presence they had when they opened the set with Fire with Fire, a popular song from their second release Bloodrun. People started moving to the dance floor before the first song was done, and by the time the set was finished not a single soul remained seated. It is not hard to see why they are gaining popularity on the local scene. This was a well-rehearsed and passionately delivered show, which bodes well for a bright future for them. I certainly look forward to their next live performance and will be posting an interview with the band soon.
