Following two weeks of captivating performances at the quarter-final events of the 2017 GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition, the top contenders have been whittled down to 12. They will compete for a place in the grand finale at the semi-final event taking place at the Market Hall, GrandWest on 18 September 2017. The top 12 in the 2017 GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition are Caitlin Farmer, Courtneigh Davids, Gugu Duma, Kirsten Williams, Kyle Petersen, Lauren Hendricks, Liso Gewabe, Naledi Masilo, Ruby Truter, Sisanda Myataza, Vicky Rose and Zolani Bongo.
They will perform on stage before a live audience, accompanied by a band. The judges will be looking at vocal technique, song interpretation, stage presence and audience response in order to pick the six finalists who will perform in the grand finale on 20 September 2017 at the Market Hall, GrandWest. The stakes are high, with prizes worth over R130,000 for the first, second and third place winners.
GrandWest congratulates the 12 semi-finalists and urges the community to support them as they give it their all for a place in the finals. The semi-final event, where the six finalists will be named, is open to the public. The show will start at 20h00 and entrance is free. Doors open at 18h00.
For the first time, the competition will produce a show featuring top past winners and current GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition winners. The 90-minute show will be held on 6 and 7 October 2017. Tickets cost R125 each and will be available at Computicket.
