Sunday the 20th of May will see Durban trio GANGS OF BALLET take to the rolling fields of the Sugar Rush Park in Ballito, for the next, much-anticipated Marriott Ballito Beats music concert. Ballito locals can look forward to another social Sunday spent with friends and family, enjoying picnic-vibes and some of the best musical entertainment South Africa has to offer.
The line-up boasts Durban exports GANGS OF BALLET who will take to the stage at around 3 pm, as well as supporting act Albert Frost who will warm up the crowd with his magical blues beats from 1:30 pm. Gates will open for fans at 12 pm.
“We’ve always been supporters of both these incredible acts,” says Stu Berry, Ballito Beats Series Director director. “We have worked with them extensively and are never disappointed with the level of quality entertainment they bring to every performance, in terms of musical talent and stage presence. They are real crowd pleasers, and we know from past Marriott Ballito Beats shows that the Ballito fans love a good party. Sunday’s performances won’t be any different. We’re in for an afternoon of good fun, Ballito-style, and we can’t wait.”
In 2016, GANGS OF BALLET released their latest EP, entitled 'FORM & FUNCTION PART 2'. This EP comes after the release of PART 1 in 2015.
PART 2 was self-produced by the band and recorded at Echoes Studios in Durban by Brendan ‘Rusti’ Rossouw in February 2016. The band focused on distilling the ‘feel’ of each song and creating material that would leave a lasting emotional effect on their fans, after listening to it.
The band’s strategy to be both the artists and producers of their own music has been a significant step in building confidence and allowing them to craft their unique sound, without limitations. Although noticeably a progression from their earlier work, the EP features the signature elements of GANGS OF BALLET: powerful songs, heartfelt performances, inspiring production and arrangements and a few choruses that you can already tell you’ll be singing along to at their Ballito show.
For the past two decades, the energetic performances of SAMA award-winning blues/rock guitarist/singer Albert Frost has captivated audiences attention worldwide. He has recorded with Arno Carstens, Koos Kombuis, Chris Chameleon, Anton Goosen, David Kramer, Karen Zoid and many others. He has performed with every major artist in South Africa as well as international artists like Ali Farka Touré and Finley Quaye. He has toured with Simple Minds and REM and supported the Rolling Stones. Albert has performed at legendary and exclusive international music festivals including the Isle of Wight, Hard Rock Calling, Oppikoppi, Splashy Fen…and now… Ballito!
The Gangs of Ballet concert will take place in the afternoon on Sunday the 20th of May. Tickets range from R140 for early bird tickets and R150 for general access for adults, R80 for children between 6 and 12, and R30 for children under 6.
Fans can also look forward to up-and-coming shows where Sugar Rush Park will host the likes of Matthew Mole on the 26th of August and Mango Groove on the 1st of July, in the next two instalments of the Marriott Ballito Beats Music Series.
