SKIP&DIE is an pan-tropical future bass band from Holland with local roots.   Their enigmatic lead singer, Cata.Pirata, is originally from South Africa and the group is ready to treat her motherland with their exotic live shows at the end of this month and at Rocking the Daisies in the beginning of October.  Their spectacular performances and world music sound sets them apart from anything South Africa’s stages have experienced.

In collaboration with Red Bull Studios Cape Town & Amsterdam, the group will also be conducting music workshops in Cape Town and Johannesburg as part of the Young in Prison(SA/NL) NGO program. During their trip they will also make music with local musicians, among others Jack Parow.

The Red Bull Goodwill Project

After reaching the final of the Dutch Red Bull SoundClash 2014, SKIP&DIE was honoured by Red Bull to realise a goodwill project. The band decided to support Young In Prison (YIP); an NGO working to give children in prison a voice and a chance to make a sustainable change in their lives by introducing weekly art and sport workshops inside the prison for the youngsters as a starting-point.

YIP also organises programs for the youth who are released from detention, and who need some support in finding their paths back into society.

YIP and SKIP&DIE will organise music workshops for youngsters who are following the post-release program.  Participants will be taught the process of making music, with a focus on the importance of group-collaboration in creation. Jack Parow has been announced as one of the collaborating artists. The workshop will be held in Johannesburg and in Cape Town.

About SKIP&DIE’s music:

SKIP&DIE’s first album ‘Riots in the Jungle’ (2012) was written & recorded by Cata.Pirata and Dutch producer Jori Collignon while they travelled through South Africa’s Soweto, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Gugulethu, collaborating along the way with some of SA’s most inspiring music makers on the rise. The album portrays their experience of blazing sun, dusty roads, township shacks, cockroaches, skulls, bones and lovebirds. It contains songs in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Zulu, Spanish and Portuguese.

Their second album, ‘Cosmic Serpents’ (2015), was recorded all over the globe between 2013-2015 during their world tours, from Egypt to Portugal, from Colombia down to Argentina, from songs written on the coasts of South Africa, to beats recorded in the vibrance of Brazilian carnival.

Now, with ideas for a third album budding in their minds, SKIP&DIE return to play their first shows in South Africa, and once again collaborate with other South African artists.
