Today The Remedy dropped their new EP "From Scratch"
This is the first of many projects to come from the boys.
We hope you'll be a part of their journey as they grow and mature within their sound.
The Remedy is an upcoming Durban based Trap/ Hip-Hop duo that consists of two members, Nasiphi "Naz" Minenhle Zwane (Producer, budding Sound Engineer, Rapper-song writer) & Andile "Lunathii Drops" Lunathi Phila Mathonsi (Rapper- songwriter).
They started making music in 2015 when Lunathii developed an interest in playing the guitar. Naz, who was his classmate decided to give him a few lessons. They started off doing acoustic covers of well-known songs but ended up writing their own songs when Naz started learning how to produce beats. This triggered the transition from an Acoustic RnB trio, to a Trap/Hip-Hop outfit that would be dubbed, The Remedy.
Initially, The Remedy had 3 members, the other member being Yamkela Mdletshe. They all had their own style of approaching a song.
Naz is more of a conscious rapper with verses that are mostly educational.
Lunathii always tries to add rhythm & storytelling in his writing & Yamkela gave it that deep RnB feel.
Unfortunately, she decided to part ways with The Remedy upon the group's transition from Acoustic RnB to Trap/Hip-Hop.
From February 2016, the boys decided to start working on an EP that would best describe their journey from the day they formed the group. They named the EP "From Scratch" to best depict how they got rejected by many, how they had to learn how to do everything themselves & talk about things that affect the human soul like; love, their dreams, what they want to achieve with the music & the people they look up to. The Remedy worked and collaborated with many upcoming artists & labels from DBN & JHB alike.
These include the likes of Running From A Full Moon's frontwoman, Nixxi (JHB), Durban's very own Songbird, Beth, & Pretoria based singer-songwriter, LUGO, to name but a few.
Special shout out to DRUSA RECORDS for being In partnership with The Remedy for two very special tracks on the EP as well.
This EP was more of a way the boys were trying to find themselves within the music and create their own lane, hence there are very different sounds in this EP. They describe the EP as a rollercoaster ride - that was my experience indeed!
