Long Live King Rat!

To the unenlightened, drum and bass sounds as though it’s an easy style to execute. But, like most stereotyped sound styles, it’s the way in which artists manipulate these supposed limitations that makes them great – kind of like Stravinsky limiting himself to certain sounds to free his creativity.

King Rat, a monster in the local scene, is one of the few who is absolutely killing it. Not only does he diversify to stay fresh, he also explores what it means to champion one genre.

He says he’s going dark for Halloween, so be prepared... Here’s everything you need to know about the rhythm rodent himself!

Have you got any scary surprises hidden in your Halloween set?

I’ve actually been working on putting some sort of a ‘dark’ twist on my set considering it’s for Halloween, so definitely a lot of surprises. You’ll have to wait and see! HALLOWEEN 1AM CREW!

You’re always working with new artists – has that helped you develop your style?

Yeah for sure, I love collaborating with other DJ’s and producers. It’s always exciting to learn new stuff and get a different perspective, that’s how we expand on our abilities and views right?

You’re an expert in the world of drum and bass, what’s the next big thing?

Thank you for the kind words! The next big thing would be to start releasing some new produced music. I haven't had a release in a while as I’ve been busy with other commitments but I have been working and I should be getting some stuff out in the next year or so. No rush though :)

What’s the worst Halloween joke you’ve ever heard?

Halloween jokes? That’s seems ironic. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any? I’m always up for a good laugh though. You got any?

Surely Master Splinter is up for consideration as king of the rats?

Yeah, Splinter is a BAD MAN! Last time we were together we agreed to disagree on matters concerning the hierarchy of the underground ;)
