Open Mic Jazz Competition Auditions from 29 August to 19 September
Auditions for jazz singers this month at GrandWest’s Open Mic Jazz singing competition
Auditions for GrandWest’s illustrious Open Mic Jazz singing competition are happening again, every Wednesday evening from 29 August 2018 until 19 September 2018 from 20h00 at Jackson Hall, GrandWest.
The competition, now in its tenth year, provides a platform for up and coming ‘non-professional’ singers to show off their talent to the public. GrandWest invites all jazz singers who are not making a living from singing, who have not released an album and who do not sing full time, to enter this fantastic competition.
To enter, simply check the GrandWest website page for the Open Mic Jazz (OMJ) repertoire sheet (www.suninternational.com/open-mic-jazz) and choose a song you would like to sing. Then come to the audition and fill in a registration form. The competition works on a first come first serve basis and there can be only 30 auditions for each session, so be sure to arrive early. The Open Mic Jazz singing competition is free to enter.
2017 OMJ Winner Ruby Truter
“We have found such incredibly talented jazz singers at our Open Mic Jazz singing competition, we cannot wait to see who takes part this year,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest. “We encourage anyone who loves to sing jazz, to try out. There are some amazing prizes up for grabs worth more than R200 000. The winner will walk off with R40 000 in cash as well as a lot of other prizes. We always suggest that hopefuls do not leave their audition too late, as our later date auditions can get very busy,” says Matthys.
“We are also delighted to announce that the 19-piece Lady Day Big Band will be playing at the finals, this level band will certainly add to the ‘wow’ factor,” says Matthys.
