ABOUT DON FERNANDO

DON FERNANDO will be returning to the stage in 2022 to celebrate their 15th year anniversary as a band. In Australia, they have become a staple on the scene with a loyal following of punters and respect from their musical peers that have seen them touring the country with bands such as Clutch, Helmet, Fu Manchu, Brant Bjork, Corrosion of Conformity and many more. Internationally, they have built a following in the UK, Europe and South America by getting in the van and hitting stages with their explosive live show. 2015 saw them hit Europe for their most successful tour yet with sold-out shows in many cities and an appearance at Desertfest London alongside Sleep, Red Fang and Orange Goblin.

Don Fernando are going to be hitting Europe in 2022 with their new live album.

You Are My Blood track by track:

1. The Setting Sun - One of the band's heaviest tracks, playing with different time signatures and mixing more Metal style riffs with a big hooky chorus. The song explores lyrical themes of family and lost love.

2. Take You - A straight-up rock song, this was Andy's homage to AC/DC, you might not be able to hear it but the song is an attempt to see what it would have sounded like if Malcolm Young had played stoner rock! The lyrics explore dark themes centred around murder and abduction.

3. Don’t Go - is one of the first songs ever written by the band and was featured on their first album "The Banquet Of.." which was released in 2008. The song musically is a straight-up stoner rock song and the lyrics are based around the idea of unrequited love at first sight.

4. Haunted By Humans - Originally released on their album of the same name, this was the title track. Musically, Andy describes it as a stoner pop song with a classic structure inspired by bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Sasquatch. Lyrically the song explores the concept of being haunted by the memory of a living person.

5. If I Said - This was also one of the first songs written by the band and was originally released on their debut EP which was only released on CD in 2006. This song has developed into a crowd favourite with the catchphrase "If I said I was going to die would you f**k me", the lyrics were written at a time when Andy was lamenting a lost love and was written from a very autobiographical place. Musically the riffs are inspired by bands such as Kyuss and Black Sabbath.

6. Rise in Sea - Also one of the very early tracks from the band this is an instrumental song based around the one riff with different variations and guitar melodies that weave their way around the main bass riff until they reach a crescendo at the end of the song. It is also a crowd favourite.

7. Motherload - A collection of in your face chunky riffs this track just straight up melts your face and gets the crowd jumping. The lyrics explore concepts of mental health and depression and the struggle this can present for people with lifelong mental health diagnoses. The "motherload" represents a motherload of pharmaceuticals that some people need in order to function in life.

8. Welcome to the Fold - This track was written at a time when the band needed one more track for their album "Dia De Los Muertos", two new members had just joined the band and Andy was showing them the riffs to this song in rehearsal. The riffs were written when the drummer James Innes asked Andy to write a groovy, classic desert rock style track and the lyrics were literally a welcoming to the band of the new members.

9. Running and Hiding - Running and Hiding is Andy's homage to Scandinavian rock n roll bands such as Turbonegro, The Hellacopters and Kvelertak, you won’t be able to hear it in the song as Andy has hidden his influences in amongst the classic Don Fernando wall of sound unique style and thrown in a half time stoner rock break down but it’s all there if you listen closely. Lyrically the song was inspired by the true story of Oscar Pretorius as his trial was playing out at the time and it also explores themes of domestic violence and the fear and devastation it can cause.
