“‘Elderflowers’, Gerald Clark’s latest release, features one of our homegrown treasures at his mesmerising best. Fusing a familiar sound with a stripped-down sophistication, his ever more impressive vocal performance is as heartfelt as ever, with a hook that harks back to the great songwriters of the past. A song to make you reminisce and look to the future with equal elation.“ - Malcolm McArb (Peer Music)

“‘Elderflowers’ was one of those songs written in just a few minutes, on the back of an old guitar string packet,” explains Gerald. “There was a huge thunderstorm coming in and we were sitting in a cottage out in the woods outside a little town called Třebíč in Czech Republic. This song captures the absolute bliss of a lovers' quest in the eye of the storm - that pure moment when love seems so simple. It was my first song written abroad; I have been working on a new album since which I plan to record and release in 2021.”

The music video that accompanies the track was shot on location in Prague and in the Morava region of the Czech Republic during autumn of last year.

The whole thing was conceptualised, shot and directed by Gerald’s talented friends Konrad Raubenheimer and Danielle McDonald from AWEMYBRU, who flew over to visit him from Belgium the weekend the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup.

“The video contains some beautiful footage of the magic that is Prague, as well as the charms of the countryside and my lovely fiancé Radka, who stars as the character who leads the viewer through these mesmerising spaces. It took us a long time to release the video and we are happy to share it with the world,” Gerald enthuses.

Over the past two decades, Gerald grew from a fresh-faced 19-year-old laaitie who fronted the blues outfit Delta Blue, into a musical stalwart with no less than five solo albums under his belt - Sweepslag, Black Water, Follow The River, AfroBoer & the GoldenGoose, and Afrocoustic respectively.

Since then he has travelled and performed in 17+ countries; received a coved SAMA nomination as well as an MTV Europe Animation Award; played shows all over SA at festivals that range from the KKNK to Oppikoppi, Up the Creek, Splashy Fen, and Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts; and collaborated with the likes of Stefan Dixon, Luna Paige and Albert Frost, as well as industry greats like Bok van Blerk, Gian Groen, Van Coke Kartel, Dan Patlansky and Schalk Joubert. Gerald is also actively involved with a variety of charities, including Ray of Sunshine Home for Abandoned Babies.

Here are the details:
