The popular Afrikaans Festival, Liefde by die Dam, returns to Emmarentia Dam in Johannesburg on Sunday 3 April and Meerendal, Cape Town Saturday 9 April. Liefde By Die Dam, named after Valiant Swart's famous hit song with the same name, showcases the best in local music in a picnic-style setting. This is the perfect day out for all ages with a diverse line-up of acts, delicious food, a fully stocked bar facility and non-stop entertainment.
Pierre Greeff from Die Heuwels Fantasties, who is also one of the organisers of Liefde, says that they are thrilled about the fact that tickets for both events sold out super-fast. He says: “Liefde by die Dam has always been a big day out, with big names on a big stage in front of a big crowd. We are very happy that we can present the event in the style and scale that it is used to. Festivalgoers can expect to see their personal favourite artists with the best sound on a fantastic stage. We are working non-stop to prepare everything so that people can have the absolute best day out.”
The popular actor and comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout will be the MC at both concerts this year. Bezuidenhout, who kept us going through harsh lockdowns with his “Feeling good, feeling positive!” conversations on social media, says that festivalgoers can expect “a big one!” He explains: “The artists are hungry to perform. And we know that people are also hungry for a hell of a show! There is lots of love to go around. So come to the jol mense, let`s get together and fill each other up!”
Francois van Coke will be playing at the Johannesburg concert. He says that he is very happy with the announcement. “I have been part of the Liefde by die Dam family since the beginning. I am looking forward to being back on that incredible stage. Can`t wait folks, see you there!”
One of the artists that will be performing on the Liefde stages for the first time is Youngsta CPT. He says: “I am excited to be a part of LBDD alongside top acts. I am pleased to be doing both Johannesburg and Cape Town shows.”
It is a tradition at Liefde by die Dam concerts to leave your picnic blanket behind. The team from LIEFDE WEN liefdewen.co.za will be there to gather the blankets at the end of the events and arrange distribution to families where needed.
