Cape Town-based solo artist ISLA breaks through the mundane with her debut single ‘Break the Fall’ – a melancholic, subtle and captivating single exploring the difficulties experienced during long-distance relationships.

Listen to 'Break the Fall'

Break the Fall’ is a laid-back, catchy alternative pop song that traverses through emotions felt during the physical separation of partners. It introduces the idea that distance-related challenges can make some relationships stronger despite the uncomfortable longing that takes place.

The song was written by twenty-year-old singer-songwriter Isla Sutherland – known creatively as ISLA and was produced by Howard Edward at Cosher Recording Studios. ISLA’s musical influences include the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Lorde which can certainly be heard in her calming vocals and gentle melodies. Her composing style and soothing vocals might be viewed as a more feminine take on the latter works of Bastille.

A bittersweet song filled with angelic vocals and soothing instrumentation; ‘Break the Fall’ is a wonderful choice for distant dreamers and marks the first of many musical projects to be heard from ISLA.
