In this interview with Underground Press, the band dives into their artistic process, the meaning behind their music, and the camaraderie that fuels their creativity. Join us as we explore the heart and soul of Rewind.

Your band originated from a group of friends sharing a love for music. How has your friendship influenced your creativity and the music you produce together?

Our friendship is the foundation of everything we do. It creates a safe space for us to share ideas without fear of judgement. We draw from our shared experiences, which enriches our songwriting and helps us create music that feels authentic and relatable to each member of the band.

If you had to describe your music to someone who has never heard it before, what key elements would you highlight that make Rewind stand out?

We blend catchy pop melodies with rock elements, creating an energetic sound. Our harmonies are a big part of our identity, and we strive to make music that’s both uplifting and introspective.

With your debut single ‘Never Enough’ focusing on themes of heartbreak and nostalgia, how do you approach writing lyrics that resonate so deeply with listeners?

Our songwriting process often involves exploring universal themes that many people can relate to. We aim to capture moments and feelings that resonate widely, using vivid imagery and relatable scenarios. By crafting lyrics that invite listeners into a shared experience, we create a connection that goes beyond our individual stories.

The journey from covers to original music can be challenging. What was the most surprising lesson you learned during this transition, and how did it shape your artistic direction?

One surprising lesson was realising how important collaboration is in the creative process. Writing original music required us to be more open to each other's ideas and to trust the collective vision. This experience has pushed us to experiment with new sounds and styles, helping us define our unique identity as a band.

Collaboration is key in a band. Can you describe how you work together during the songwriting process? Do you have specific roles, or is it more of a fluid exchange of ideas?

Our songwriting process is very collaborative. We often start with a jam session where ideas from each member flow freely. Each member brings their unique ideas, and we blend those ideas until we find something that suits all of us.

Who are some local artists that inspire you, and how do you see them influencing your work?

We draw inspiration from local acts like Prime Circle, Fokofpolisiekar, Will Linley, and Keanan Eksteen. Their dedication to their craft motivates us to stay true to our sound and push our creative boundaries.

The music video for ‘Never Enough’ is set to complement the single's release. What message do you hope to convey through the visuals, and how do they enhance the song's narrative?

The visuals aim to capture the feelings of longing, and we want to create an atmosphere that enhances the emotional impact, allowing viewers to connect with the song on a deeper level.

Each member of Rewind has unique influences. How do you balance your individual tastes and preferences while maintaining a cohesive sound as a band?

We embrace our diverse influences and see them as strengths. During our songwriting, we experiment with different styles and find common ground, allowing our distinct sounds to blend into something uniquely Rewind.

What challenges do you anticipate as you step into the music industry with your original work, and how do you plan to overcome them?

We know that gaining visibility and building an audience will be challenging. To overcome this, we plan to engage with our listeners through social media and live performances, creating a community around our music.

If you could collaborate with any artist or band in the world, who would it be, and what would you want to create together?

We would love to collaborate with the Jonas Brothers. Their sound is innovative, and we believe that combining our styles could result in something truly special, pushing creative boundaries and reaching new heights.

As Rewind introduces the world to their original music with ‘Never Enough’, their passion and dedication to music shine through in every note. Rewind is poised to leave an impression, so keep an eye as they carve their path. Follow them on their socials and stream ‘Never Enough’ available on all platforms 25 October.
