Cape Town, August 27, 2024: Following the recent Liberty Promenade “Post with Purpose” campaign, a month-long drive to raise awareness of the tremendous work being done by numerous organisations around the mall in various ways, the three winning organisations have been announced. The Shumeez Scott Foundation is the campaign’s overall winner, with the highest value till slips received a donation of R30 000. Additionally, the National Rescue for Poverty and Drugs and the Bhabisana Baby Project each received a R10,000 donation.

Campaign overview

In the lead-up to Mandela Day 2024, the mall is took an unconventional, ingenious approach to ensuring that support would land in the hands of those who needed it most. Eight local charities were highlighted in an impactful installation in the centre and promoted on the mall’s digital platforms.

Shoppers were invited to drop their till slips, (with a R 100 value and above), in the box allocated to a particular organisation in order to vote for them. The end goal was that the charity that received the till slips with the highest value would be awarded an R30,000 donation from the mall. Plus, two lucky shoppers who participated would each win a R1.000 Liberty Promenade gift card.

Gratitude expressed

Expressing gratitude, Bahia Janodien, Director of Shumeez Scott Foundation, described the prize as a “transformative gift,” sharing that the funds will enable the organisation to improve the garage where much of their work is done, creating a safer and more efficient environment. “Our members now have access to better tools and materials, which has greatly enhanced their skills development and productivity. Lastly, we were able to invest in some music equipment. Music is a powerful medium for expression and therapy, and having the proper equipment has allowed us to integrate music more effectively into our programmes. Thank you Liberty Promenade for believing in our Ability and not in our Disability.”

"We are thrilled to have been the recipient of this wonderful donation from Liberty Promenade and commend them for their amazing community spirit and recognition of the amazing work that NPOs in their community do. In this time of food insecurity, we will use the donation for baby food and non-perishable foodstuff so we can continue to make a difference in the lives of our Bhabhisana families during these tough times," shared Ann Bullen, Project Manager, Bhabhisana Baby Project.

Glenda Rania from National Rescue for Poverty and Drugs expressed, “A heartfelt thank you to Liberty Promenade. We are thrilled to announce that NRPD has been awarded R10,000. This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support from our followers. A huge thank you to Liberty Promenade and to all that took the time to post their slips in our box. Your contributions have made a significant impact, and we are deeply grateful.”
