Johannesburg, 25 July 2025 – Sandton City has officially launched a powerful new mental health initiative titled “Words That Heal” in partnership with the Riky Rick Foundation. This campaign champions the cause of “artivism” – where art and activism intersect – to break the stigma around mental health while honouring the late South African music icon.

The campaign’s core objective is clear: to invite open dialogue, inspire healing through creativity, and offer tangible support to South Africans struggling with mental health, particularly the youth.

Using Creative Expression To Spark Healing

The Riky Rick Foundation, founded in memory of the artist, is committed to promoting mental wellness through artistic expression. It places youth at the centre of its mission, believing in their potential to lead social change when given safe, expressive platforms.

With “Words That Heal”, the Foundation and Sandton City are inviting everyday South Africans to contribute to a greater cause by sending voice notes of hope to those facing emotional hardship. These voice messages can be submitted via WhatsApp to 063 980 5816 until 8 August 2025.

Selected voice notes will be woven into a curated song of hope, to be released later this year on streaming platforms. Proceeds will support free therapy access for youth, funded through the Riky Rick Foundation.

Phase Two: A Multi-Sensory Retail Experience In Mental Health Month

Set to launch during Mental Health Awareness Month in September and October, the second phase of the campaign will introduce an immersive pop-up experience at Sandton City. Visitors will be invited to listen to the campaign’s collaborative song, or reflect on Riky Rick’s final album as a tribute to his enduring legacy.

This activation includes a limited-edition merchandise hub in collaboration with celebrated artist Samurai Farai, offering on-site customisation. Proceeds from all sales and corporate pledges will directly support mental health programming for youth across South Africa.

Upholding Riky Rick’s Legacy Through Opportunity And Expression

The campaign echoes one of Riky Rick’s most poignant messages: “Please believe in young people. Give them as many opportunities as they need to prove themselves.”

By blending music, retail innovation, and community participation, “Words That Heal” isn’t just a tribute — it’s a movement. One that invites reflection, dialogue, and most importantly, hope.
