Finnish blackened death metal band Progeny of Sun have released their highly anticipated second album, Prophets of the Void, on September 5th, 2025, via Inverse Records. The 12-track release dives deeper into the band’s signature blend of aggression, darkness, and atmospheric beauty, pushing the limits of modern death metal while weaving in unexpected cross-genre elements.

A Bold Evolution In Sound

Compared to their 2023 debut, Throne of Desolation, Prophets of the Void takes a more intense and immersive direction. Each track offers a visceral mix of raw power and haunting atmospheres, cementing the band’s reputation for crafting music that is both brutal and emotionally resonant.

Origins And Growth

Formed originally as a two-man project by Jaakko Hautamäki (instrumentals, mixing, mastering) and Niko Aromaa (vocals, lyrics, visuals), Progeny of Sun first gained recognition with their self-titled EP. Their DIY approach to production, artwork, and video creation set the foundation for a band unafraid to fully control its artistic vision.

From Duo To Full Force

Realising the need for a stronger live presence, Jaakko and Niko expanded the lineup with Joni Kiviniemi (guitar), Juha Peura (drums), and later Tuomo Tolkki (bass). With the full band solidified, Progeny of Sun released the Dark Wanderer EP in 2021, followed by singles Worthless and Anguish in 2022.

Ascending Through Experimentation

By the time they released Throne of Desolation, the band had carved out a distinct identity within the extreme metal scene. Now, with Prophets of the Void, they embrace their strengths while expanding their sonic scope, offering listeners a record that balances ferocity with atmosphere.
